Emergency Medical Services are better prepared than ever to support community members with multiple and complex disabilities. Yet in many communities, significant communication gaps remain
between first responders and youth with disabilities, gaps that can increase risk during an emergency, especially when individuals do not communicate verbally. This presentation creates an opportunity for
direct dialogue between a Virginian with complex disabilities, his family, and Virginia’s first responders.
Together, they will share practical strategies for supporting people with disabilities during emergencies and for planning with them to ensure safer, more inclusive emergency responses.
Prerequisites: Age: 16+. Participants must hold an active Virginia Office of EMS (OEMS) certification
